Railroad car loading facilities

When loading railroad cars with bulk goods, uniform loading over the length of the railroad car is crucial. In the case of parked railroad cars, this is achieved using movable railroad carloading devices or a combination of diverter flaps and slides. We do have successful applications in the field using such device, controlled by a RACO Actuator®, which moves the swiveling chute precisely into seven positions.

Because the approach accuracy of the individual points must be guaranteed from both approach directions, the RACOmatic® in configuration B (up to 8 positions) is the perfect solution for the required movement profile. The RACOmatic® was supplied as a variant for control cabinet installation including the vector-controlled frequency inverter with a connection module, EMC kit, choke, and braking resistor.

Bulk Flow Divider

Two electric actuators in synchronization.

A bulk material flow divider diverts the continuous material flow without interruption via a so-called prism. A large bulk material flow divider is synchronized with two RACO Electric Actuators® using the RACOmatic® synchronization mode.

RACO has developed the programming for the synchronization of the two electric actuators via the vector-controlled frequency inverter and the integrated electronic position sensor (EPS). Parameters such as the positioning speed with the appropriate brake ramps for approaching the target positions, as well as limit values for force, are defined in the password protected program settings.

Only two digital signals are required from the Level II system to start and stop the movement.

Flop / Diverter Gates (pants chutes)

In diverter gates the material flow is directed to one of two or three collecting or transfer devices. The material flow is normally vertical. The flap itself lies in the material flow and in the end positions against the wall of the pants chute.

Vibrations that are inevitably transmitted to the electric actuator via the lever arm are dampened by the integrated spring pot. Therefore the spindle system is protected and guarantees a long service life. This also applies to the corrosion protection of the RACO Electric Actuator®, which can withstand both the prevailing environmental conditions and fluctuating temperatures.

Belt Scraper

Adjustment of belt scrapers on conveyor belts

In open cast mining, bulk materials are transported on conveyor belts that need to be cleaned of snow and dirt. A plow is used to clean the moving belt or, in rare cases, to clear the conveyed material.

Electric actuators offer simple integration into the system structure and are economical to operate. One or two RACO Electric Actuators® are used to lower the plough, depending on the belt width. The conveyor belt is often raised slightly at the same time to ensure a level surface for optimal cleaning results.

Several electric actuators are synchronized via the RACOmatic® whereby only start and stop signals are required from the customer.
